Kurt Arrigo is Malta’s most eminent and one of the world’s finest marine photographers. ­­­­

His illustrious and diverse career has seen him capture dramatic action at elite international sporting events, portray A-list Hollywood stars, swim with hammerhead sharks and undertake intrepid environmental projects from the Galapagos to the Himalayas. Kurt has been passionate about the sea from birth. Born on the captivating Mediterranean island of Malta in 1969, he counts diving, sailing and swimming among his foremost passions. Fittingly, a significant part of Kurt’s career as a photographer has been engaged in the water. His expertise in underwater photography techniques has pushed boundaries in the field, inspiring work that has seen him capture subjects as diverse as graceful horses, state-of-the-art multi-million dollar racing boats and conservation projects aimed at promoting the protection of underwater life and the preservation of our seas. Kurt’s career in professional sailing photography began when he was assigned to the 1992 America’s Cup. A rare flair for capturing and combining the intensity of the drama on the race course and the aesthetically pleasing aspects of the sport has enabled Kurt to pursue a career covering sailing across the globe. Kurt has been an official yachting photographer for over a decade providing iconic moments from international classics like the Rolex Sydney Hobart and the Rolex Fastnet from both the air and the water. In 2012, he was awarded the prestigious Yacht Racing Image of the Year, prevailing in a high-class international competition. His work has also been recognized at the prestigious 1995 Underwater World Championships of Photography held in the Red Sea, and in the Communications Arts Photography Annual 1997. While Kurt’s career has taken him across the globe, an inherent passion for his homeland is a deep-rooted feature of his work. Kurt’s two books Malta: A Coastal Journey and Grand Harbour Malta received critical acclaim capturing the beauty, history and intricacies of one the world’s most alluring places: the tantalizing relationship between light and the sea an inspiration behind his craft. As a stills photographer for the film industry, Kurt has supported international productions in Malta, and been commissioned high profile advertising campaigns for global brands in the lifestyle and luxury sector. Kurt’s commitment to his work is portrayed in his positive attitude and easy going personality. He strives to meet new boundaries, engage in fresh opportunities and push his artistic limits, constantly searching for a stimulating outlook on his subjects.
